CLS is proud to share a series of Summer Intern Spotlights! Our first is Bella Hoye, a Psychology junior interning with The Masa Center.
Her project is "Making Mexican History in Michigan."
"With this internship I am trying to understand and communicate to residents of Michigan the academic and mental health necessity of ethnic studies courses in high schools. It is important for schools to recognize the different cultures and ethnicities presented in Michigan. For many students it can be difficult to express their identity at school because the resources to learn about the history of their culture in America is limited. Not only will ethnic studies course academically strengthen the minds of young adults, but it will also contribute to more positive mental health growth for students to feel more of their identity and culture being normalized in America," Bella said.
Bella is being supervised in her internship by Santos Ramos.
